The Dragon rising to the Surface?:

Is the Dragon rising to the surface? Its a question that more and more innovators are asking themselves as Microsoft begin delivering on some of their most recent R&D projects, into a first phase of commercialization.

Microsoft have released their multi-touch, coffee table style touch screen technology called Surface It may appear very reminiscent of Jeff Hans Multi-touch experiments from back in 2005.

Take note however – Jeff Han has also started his own called Perceptive Pixel to market large versions of his Multi Touch screen to companies

Microsoft has also unveiled their new Dragon technology which is behind their Photosynth demo product The demo Photosynth product creates multidimensional spaces out of User Generated “random photos” available through the normal 2D Internet. The architect, Blaise Aguera y Arcas, shows it off in this standing-ovation demo.

Silverlight for Mobile and Desktop

What’s the hot new trend ? – you ask : well the convergence of desktop applications, internet hosted applications, and mobile device applications is really heating up.

Scott Holden from Microsoft discusses the future of information delivery systems showcasing Silverlight for Windows Mobile, and how the Silverlight applications can scale from Desktop to Mobile. Currently in alpha Silverlight 1.1 is due for release with supporting tools inside the next year.

Microsoft Cruises through NZ in December

We met with a couple of the guys from the Developer Group at Microsoft in Auckland last week. They told us about this great event open to all in a few of the country’s major centers. Should be an interesting symposium about the future if some of Microsoft’s products such as Vista, IE7, Xbox 360 and how developers can maximize their skills through actual pay models.
