Today New Zealand game publisher Trickysheep Publishing released Zodal’s latest adventure game called “Anika’s Odyssey – Land of the Taniwha”.

Anika’s Odyssey is a magical adventure deep into a lush and enchanted land. Be Anika Greenfield and break through reality, to enter a mystical world inspired by Aotearoa, New Zealand. Throughout the adventure, Anika meets wild and curious creatures and exotic Taniwha spirits (New Zealand Maori word for spirits, pronounced ‘tah-nee-fah’) that inhabit this wondrous wilderness.

The game is an enchanting point and click adventure puzzle game, full of a myriad of surprises and charm. Help Anika Greenfield explore her colorful landscape as she searches to reclaim her beloved friend.

Anikas Odyssey is a free web game and was released on the internet today and launched through the USA Game portal Kongregate, “the YouTube of Online Gaming”. Kongregate a gaming and social networking website allows its members to chat while playing games and post comments about the games while bookmarking their favorites and rating the digital content.

In the first day alone the Anikas Odyssey – Land of the Taniwha has been played over 10,000 times, and fans are already demanding a sequel, with comments of praise and adoration being continually posted, such as this comment from a community member “superb game play, spot-on sound effects, nice puzzles, and much more make this an excellent game!”

As the game publisher Trickysheep hold the IP rights to the Anika’s Odyssey franchise and plan to release a sequel and a mobile portable version of the game in the first quarter of 2008. It is likely that Zodal, New Zealand’s Leading Adobe Flash Game and Mobile Game Digital Development Studio, will again be the assigned Game Developer for the follow up project. Trickysheep are reviewing considerations for game sponsorship opportunities. If you are interested in exclusive rights to the sequel please contact partners@trickysheep.co.nz

The Dragon rising to the Surface?:

Monday, June 18th, 2007

Is the Dragon rising to the surface? Its a question that more and more innovators are asking themselves as Microsoft begin delivering on some of their most recent R&D projects, into a first phase of commercialization.

Microsoft have released their multi-touch, coffee table style touch screen technology called Surface It may appear very reminiscent of Jeff Hans Multi-touch experiments from back in 2005.

Take note however – Jeff Han has also started his own called Perceptive Pixel to market large versions of his Multi Touch screen to companies

Microsoft has also unveiled their new Dragon technology which is behind their Photosynth demo product The demo Photosynth product creates multidimensional spaces out of User Generated “random photos” available through the normal 2D Internet. The architect, Blaise Aguera y Arcas, shows it off in this standing-ovation demo.

Design Across Devices with Adobe Flash Lite

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Well it is our tag line after all, but a few people have been asking me lately about designing across devices.

Zodal specializes in designing across devices, and in part this is due to our teams multi-skilled experiences and to the fact that our core competencies revolve around the Adobe Flash and Adobe Flash Lite platform.

A great deal of our software and interaction development is done for mobile phones targeting both Symbian and Brew OS handsets. However we also develop high quality rich graphic solutions for PSP and iRiver devices.

The FITC conference is in full swing in Canada at the moment – and Dave Yang and Dongyub Lee have done a great session outlining the different devices available for Flash Lite Mobile Development.

Adobe Flash Lite for mobile devices:
- iRiver Clix1 / U10 (Flashlite 1.1, Flash UI)
- Lupo Carrot Kids (edutainment device for kids; similar to Nintendo DS) – Setup, Contents pack – looks very cool!
- Samsung M4500 (comes with Flashlite) – Apocket.com, MyUI (a customizable home automation controller UI)
- Yukyung Viliv P1 (PMP player) – Flash UI, Flash games

and of course now the latest gaming consoles:
- Adobe Flash for gaming consoles (Wii, PS3, PSP)

Great session notes have been provided on Aral Balkans site.
